Next Door is situated right in the heart of Fremantle along the cafe strip on South Terrace.  My best friend brought me there as she read in The West that they had the BEST sticky date pudding in Perth and she knew sticky date pudding is my current favourite dessert so she wanted to try it out.  What a sweetie!

We decided to sit out on the alfresco as it was a warm evening and it’s always nice to hear the bustling of people eating and chatting along the strip.  Next Door definitely has its own distinctive style – check out the chairs (pictured below), we were amused by them the whole night.

"Special" Chairs The staff was extremely friendly and introduced the menu really well.  She told us that they have over 100+ wine choices which were quite impressive.  We decided on a Vasse Felix champagne which turned out quite fruity but refreshing.

Next we had to tackle the food menu.  The way the food menu works is that they have a selection of dishes that are meant to be ordered and shared – something similar to tapas.  Normally, main dishes are not ordered unless the patrons really wanted one.  The main dishes are written in a red board that the staff carry around to each table..something different again.  Our selection

We decided on 5 plates for the three of us to share:

  • Char grilled quail soy ginger dressing
  • Grilled lamb cutlets oregano hot fetta dressing
  • Seared scallops cucumber wasabi ginger pickled mayo
  • Salt and pepper squid dipping sauce
  • Tasting plate consisting of
    • Pumpkin Arancini – cured salmon rocket
    • Prawn coriander and mint spring roll
    • Curry puffs
    • Mushroom caps with proscuitto & blue cheese

Vasse Felix Silver Knight Extra Brut Menu

The food were absolutely delicious and the presentation made it really appetising.  Surprisingly they were also quite filling despite the size and we didn’t have to Best sticky date puddingorder any mains.

Next came the most anticipated part of the night which were the desserts.  Will the sticky date pudding live up to its reputation of being the best in Perth?  Well it did!  It’s one of the best in Perth! Yum!  I was very happy!  We also ordered another two – the lemon tart and pannacotta.  We did not think much of the pannacotta but the lemon tart was tasty, kinda home made style.

Overall, this is a great place especially if you want to try something different.  It might be a bit on the pricey side but you do get what you pay for!  I’m still thinking about the sticky date pudding…..

    Great review Tashie!
I loved the dipping sauce for the squid, the spring rolls were delicious and so were the scallops. By far the best dish was the sticky date pudding… yummo. I am not a big fan of sticky date pudding but have now been converted. You could taste the delicious dates, it was rich but not cloying, sweet but not sickly so. The pannacota was totally disappointing… the worse dish of the night.
Totally enjoyed the sparkling wine… but then again, I am a sucker for champers 🙂 (and no, I was NOT tipsy that night :p)
