Utopia, Perth

UtopiaUtopia is a great place to get the popular Asian drink, Bubbletea (BBT).  BBT originated from Taiwan and is a tea based drink containing traditionally gelatinous tapioca pearl “Sago”.  However, BBT has evolved into a whole new level in recent times – there are over 50 different flavours with or without milk, it comes hot or cold, and you could add extras such as flavoured jelly, flavoured pudding, aloe vera, etc.  For those familiar with Utopia, you would know what I’m talking about if I wanted something like “Summer Love” or “Horlicks”.

They have also started selling snacks, desserts and specialised pre-ordered Birthday Cakes.  From a business perspective, this is a good move just so to open up customer base and attract more people that would normally not go there.  Please note though that they are a Vegetarian dessert house so even though things are labelled as “pork”, it’s actually not real pork.

The bread and desserts look so attractive!! We felt like buying all of them to try!  Resisting the impulse, we just ended up getting the BBT and 3 items (The Pork Floss Bun, Green Bean Bun (the PIG) and Red Bean Bun).

For BBT, I always order the “Winter Love” with Aloe Vera for cold or the “Taro” with Pudding for hot.  For those who are game, you could order all the different flavours to try to find your favourite.  Over the years, I have tried countless flavours and have finally settled on these two.  Note that they do have a frequent buyer card, the usual buy 10 drinks and get 1 free.  So if you do become a regular, ask for the card!

As for the bread, who could go pass the piggie looking bun and not buy it!?  It actually did not taste anything like green bean but more like mung bean (this was a comment from my friend).  The Red Bean Bun is quite sweet but for those who love red bean, it’s a must.  The Pork Floss Bun was so-so, I think the Pork Floss Bun with Mayo would have been a better choice.  Content inside the bun and prices for each item are listed on a tag as seen in pictures above.

So for those who love a snack, try this place out.  Be warned though that you might be tempted to buy more than what you want.  Just bring a level-headed friend who can stop you – that will do the trick.

I’ve spent a lot of time ogling the desserts here! Quite dangerous to have so many interesting treats to stare at while waiting for your bubble tea – before you know it you have a bag full of things you don’t really need. Have you done karaoke here?

That’s what normally happens to me too! It gets worse since the Utopia opened in Vic Park – I always drop by there after lunch/dinner for some sweets!
Yeah used to go karaoke at the NB branch quite often – there’s a few new openings since..like the Dragon Palace and Subaru on Francis Street. Try them out.very nice and modern 🙂
