Lemon Lane, Claremont

Lemon Lane is my friend’s discovery, a funky lil’ cafe located at the end of a laneway along Bay View Terrace in Claremont.  I’d probably would not have found this cafe on my own if my friend had not brought me there for breakfast one Saturday morning after a shopping spree.  Lemon Lane is quite simply decorated and has a smallish sit-down area on the inside and an alfresco area along the narrow alleyway leading up to the cafe which I thought was quite unique! (We, of course chose to sit along the alleyway for our meal that morning for the ‘laneway dining’ ambience).

Lemon Lane was very busy the morning we arrived with the counter chock-a-block with customers waiting around for their take-away coffees (they use Five Senses coffee I might add!).  The breakfast and lunch menu is written up on a chalkboard nailed to the side wall and I was quite happy to see that they serve breakfast till 2pm.  I love cafes who do all day breakfast :).  Orders were taken and paid at the counter with the food brought to the table.

Having examined the breakfast menu, I found that it is not as extensive as would be expected, however with sufficient choices to satisfy.  For breakfast that morning, we had the following:

  • Balsamic mushroom, feta + spinach on grilled ciabatta ($17)
  • Fresh fruit salad, natural yoghurt + honey ($14.50)
  • Iced Coffees

The balsamic mushroom, feta + spinach ciabatta came and looked absolutely lovely – overflowing with sumptuous mushrooms and rockets!  I couldn’t wait to dig into it.  The first few bites were delicious, however halfway through the ciabatta, the balsamic vinegar started to overpower all other tastes and I found that I couldn’t eat too much of it anymore.  Having examined the bread more closely then, it seemed that the balsamic vinegar had soaked through the entire ciabatta!  Eeks!  I abandoned the ciabatta and just ate the remaining mushrooms and rockets.  Was disappointed.

My friend’s fresh fruit salad youghurt looked great too – wasn’t anything too special but was nice to eat.

The Iced Coffees didn’t disappoint – 5 Senses coffee :).

Overall, the breakfast was on the ordinary side but it was a good place to try for something new.  For those who love their take-away coffees, you can pre-order your coffee by SMS on 0450 708 403, 15 mins in advance.  Have never tried this service before but it sounds efficient to me!

Lemon Cafes have three other cafes in the heart of Perth’s suburbs with their latest store Lemon Espresso @ hkew Alpha located at George Wiencke Drive near the Perth Domestic Airport.  The other two cafes are located in Cottesloe and in Times Square Shopping Centre in Claremont.  Check out their website for more details!
