Secret Garden Cafe, South Perth

The Secret Garden is a popular cafe located on Angelo Street in South Perth.  I first read about this cafe from the Breakfast in Perth’s review and thought, wow, what a wonderful name for a cafe.  I didn’t manage to try it out until my ex-colleague organised a get together one day and chose this place for breakfast.

It was bright and early on the Saturday morning when I arrived and the cafe was already full of people.  From the outside, it looked very small but don’t be deceived by the outlook!  Move in a bit further and you will find it opens up and leads to a beautiful and HUGE garden out the back.  No wonder it is called the secret garden – totally befits the cafe!  Order is placed and paid at the counter – much like most of the cafe around Perth nowadays.

The path leading to the back was shaded with leafy trees and it was green here, there and everywhere, such a nice outdoorsy atmosphere.  Love it!  As I made my way there, I bumped into the waitstaff and lo and behold, it’s someone that I know!  I found out then that this is their family business, what a nice surprise.  🙂  I was going to take a photo with her and put it in this blog article but totally forgot about it after the food came.  Woops, must be more conscientious next time.

The Breakfast Menu is quite substantial with normal standard dishes you’d find for breakfast and a couple of ‘specials’.

We had the following:

  • Stuffed Mushroom ($16)
  • Eggs Florentine Et Saumon ($16)
  • Eggs Benedict with extra Mushroom ($15 + $3)

My order was of course, the Stuffed Mushroom – I love my mushies!  It came with spinach and poached eggs on toast with hollandaise sauce.  It was a big dish and had a bit of everything, awesome!  The stuffed mushroom was topped with a salsa type of filling, quite different to what I’d normally order but I like it.  Yum!  The other two dishes were huge as well, with two poached eggs for every dish, everyone was filled to the brim by the end of the meal.

Service was speedy and friendly and it was good price for the food.  I would definitely be back!

Ooh, like the look and sound of the stuffed mushies dish, and not steeply priced either. I love a good garden cafe – there used to be the Green St Garden Cafe in Joondanna but sadly it closed a few years back.

“Eggs Benefits” is a cute name 😉

        Hi Natashalam,

I really enjoyed reading your review. Is this the Secret Garden Cafe that is run by the To family? If so, I think I know them too. Will definitely try the SecretGarden Cafe.
