Iku Sushi is a new Japanese restaurant which recently opened in the stylish one40william building in the City of Perth. I was priviledged enough to score an invite to their opening party which took place late last month and managed to sample some goodies before they went public! And now I have the pleasure in sharing this event on the PFE blog 🙂
Iku Sushi is located at the back of the 140 William building and faces William Street (the part which is still undergoing renovation) and is in close proximity to the train station. The first thing you notice upon arrival is the funkiness (or maybe quirkiness) of the restaurant decor. Check out the sign to the right! ‘Sushi Ninjas at Work’ – a promise of something fun!
Moving inside, one is not disappointed with the interior as it showcases the same funkiness as the outside – bright colours with matching seats, turn-table ornament and waitstaff dressed in ninja outfit. Even the napkin is a cool picture of a tie! They spare not the little details! Oh and not to forget, they also have a coffee machine! Yay!
And now to the food! There were platters of sushi for the party and the ones that caught my eyes (and my mouth!) were the duck and the spam-filled ones! They were yum and cool and very different!
Iku Sushi has a ‘pick and choose’ system with the sushis located in the refrigerated shelves on the side. Basically, you pick up a tray at the start and choose the type of sushi or one of the bento combinations that you fancy and pay at the counter. Prices are stated as well so you know exactly how much you need to pay! Some creative drinks/desserts are available such as the ‘You had me at Jello’ Coca-cola or ribena flavoured jelly and a Iku Citron Presse.
Besides the sushis, hot food are available with the usual Donburi/Bento Sets – a screenshot of what’s available shown below.
The highlight of my night – foodwise and also of the restaurant is the Cheeseburger Sushi! No, you have not read wrong – yes, it is indeed a Cheeseburger Sushi! Cheeseburger (beef or chicken) filling wrapped as a sushi, covered with tempura batter and deep fried, served with something like a thousand island sauce! Awesome! It was so yummy! I couldn’t get enough of it! And not to forget the Panko Onion Rings too! Super crunchy onion rings served with mayonnaise sauce!
The Cheeseburger Sushi set costs $7.50 (6 pieces) and the Panko Onion Rings ($4.95)
I was a happy chappy by the end of the party! Check out the new restaurant if you are ever in the vicinity and especially the Cheeseburger Sushi! You won’t regret it!
