I’ve walked past Arigataya on various occasion but have never really felt inclined to dine there. A chance came when the restaurant my friend wanted to go to was closed and I needed to have a real quick lunch. Arigataya seemed like a place that would offer a short and sweet meal. Assumption – correct! 🙂
Arigataya is quite a tiny in size but we had no trouble getting a table that day. It has a very casual atmosphere, and almost felt like a fast food joint – the self service japanese kind. Service though was great, the wait staff was very helpful and attentive!
Noodles, especially ramen are their main specialty as noted with a wall menu of various noodle dishes – all hand made it stated! Cool! Besides those, the menu also offered rice and snacks dishes.
We had the following:
- Takoyaki ($7 for 8)
- Claypot Teriyaki Salmon Rice ($13)
- Teriyaki Chicken Stirred Noodle ($15)
The dishes we ordered were a bit of a miss for me that day but my friend liked it. The Takoyakis were too doughy for me. I think I always have the same complain with this dish even at other restaurants, maybe I should just skip this altogether next time. The Claypot Teriyaki Salmon Rice was dry, there was no teriyaki sauce over the rice or salmon; while there was heaps of sauce with the Teriyaki Chicken Stirred Noodle but too salty. The logical mind in me decided to transfer the salty sauce into the dry salmon rice and ta da! All balanced out in the end.
One thing I couldn’t figure out was the zeal with the mayonnaise sauce! Must it be squirted onto every single dish? It was hardly required for the main dishes, although it did make the salmon and chicken taste a bit better however covered over the actual teriyaki flavours in the dishes. I think I’ll stick to ordering the ramens for the next time.
