The PFEs were delighted to be invited to the launch of the Coat of Arms Burger at Grill’d Shafto Lane last Friday. As part of the upcoming Australia Day celebration, Grill’d created their first Coat of Arms Burger, allowing Australians to eat their national emblem!

When I arrived at 1220pm, the joint was packed! I queued up and realised that A (PFJ’s partner)  was standing in front of me, it was great to see a familiar face. Once inside, we were greeted warmly and were explained the gist of what was happening with the launch! One thing we must say at the counter was “I want to eat a Coat of Arms Burger” – that sealed the deal 🙂

It's official! A New Anthem That You Eat!

The Coat of Arms Burger features a blend of lean kangaroo and emu, along with a host of premium Australian-sourced ingredients including the award winning Meredith Dairy goats cheese, bush tomato relish, native thyme mayo and quandongs. Also in the mix are the beetroot, caramelised onions, tomato and mesculin.

The burger is here!

A close up of the burger itself….and not to forget the yummy thick cut chips with Grill’d herb mix and the herbed mayo sauce!

The burger looked amazing and tasted great, as agreed with everyone at the table! The roo and emu pattie boasts just 1% fat and is packed full of fibre, iron and essential nutrients. The taste may be overpowering by itself but the other ingredients complimented it really well especially the sweetness from the caramelised onion, tomato relish, beetroot and the creamy Meredith goat’s cheese! Normally not a goat’s cheese fan, this tasted very different! I found out that the cheese is actually a winner of the Australian Grand Dairy award! No wonder!

The Quandongs were an ingredient that was pointed out specifically special in the burger. Quandong is a native Australian fruit and is used by Australian aboriginal tribes for medicinal purposes. You learn something new each day! There were four of those in the burger – I took one out to have a look. It tasted slightly sweet and tangy I think, it was covered by the mayo & cheese so I couldn’t tell exactly :p

The Coat of Arms Burger can only be purchased at selected stores for a limited time, from 18 January until 31 January 2013 – the Shafto Lane branch is the designated store in WA. They only serve 50 of these per day so be quick. A great try for something different or patriotic (not)!
