I first heard of DuoTone, located on Hay Street towards the East Perth end from my sister’s friend who tagged me in one of their Instagram photo (thank you! love all the tags, keep them coming 🙂). The cafe looked modern and chic in the photo and my first thought was, “We never get this kind of cafe down that end of East Perth!” I was most excited! More so when I spied the DuoTone smoothies on sale (picture on the left). They look so special and interesting don’t they!
Attractive to the eye with such vibrant colors, they come in yellow, green and red, and are made up of various nutritious ingredients as below…they even have a unique name each!
- Yellow (Lulu) – “Rejuvenate” made up of mango, papaya, apple, passion fruit, avocado and Maca
- Green (Natalie) – “Detox” made up cucumber, kale, coriander, lime, coconut water, mango and avocado
- Red (Scarlett) – “Antioxidant” made up of pomegranate, raspberry, beet, lemon and mint
All of the smoothies are topped with 20g of whey protein base. I’d tasted the Green and Red so far and found they taste best when mixed together although it’s fun to try the taste separately as well. I really like them! In terms of sweetness, it goes from Green (least sweet) to Red to Yellow (almost like a dessert I was told). One smoothie will set you back $8.50, but if you bring back a clean bottle to them the next round, they will take $0.50 off your bill. Great idea!
Besides the smoothies, I like the coffee ($4 for a flat white) at DuoTone too! I’d visited at least four times now since they opened and the coffee doesn’t disappoint. My colleagues had the same thoughts when I introduced this place to them one morning. Although it’s a bit of a track down from the office, I consider it good exercise 🙂
DuoTone also stocks juices ($6.50) from the Juicist and have a cabinet full of healthy treats! The raspberry macadamia cookie I had one morning tasted good but a bit too healthy for me :p
This week they have also started serving a variety of toasts and I had my first taste today. The Avocado, Hummus, Feta and Chili flakes toast ($8.50) was delicious and very healthy! It came with a side of pickled cauliflower and chili as well. My kind of thing!
Here’s what the cafe looks like, it used to be a bike shop!
I’m so glad DuoTone has opened down this end of East Perth! Another great coffee and lunch time choice for me!
