Hylin, West Leederville

Hylin, located on Railway Parade in West Leederville must be one of the most popular cafe in Perth ever since it opened its door a couple of years ago. I’d been wanting to dine here for ages but never had the chance as it’s always so busy during the weekend. My chance came one morning while I was on leave on a weekday. I thought of Hylin straightaway for breakfast!

Even though it was a Monday morning, the place was nearly full when mum and I arrived! An open aired cafe, I can understand why people are drawn to this place. It’s bright, it’s funky and it makes you want to lounge around with a nice cup of coffee!

Hylin has an all day breakfast menu (up till 2pm) along with a number of regular lunch items which I was quite interested in. The sweet treats on the counter (hello CRONUTS!) were eye catchers too!

The Menu The Menu

We ordered coffees to start us off. Hylin uses coffee beans from local independent Perth roasters, Micrology Coffee Roasters. The Flat White ($4) was smooth on the palate. Very nice!

I was interested in their range of Bagels and proceeded to order the New Yorker Ruben. Even though the menu says that it will be available from 930am on the menu, it was not so on the day. I was informed that the bagels will not be ready until much later. I was sorely disappointed! I thought to get some soup as my next choice but that was not available either. Eeks totally not my day! Having no craving for any of the breakfast items I went with the Nutella Cronut ($5) for breakfast. Can’t believe I had a cronut for breakfast! It was so good though, crunchy, flaky and airy. Having dessert for breakfast is fast becoming a trend for me.

Mum had the Brekkie Bagel ($9), baked fresh holy bagel with cream cheese, bacon, fried egg, cheddar and rum sauce. It was very tasty especially with the crunch from the toasted bagel (I love all things crunchy!), couldn’t help but getting my few bites. Maybe I should have ordered this as well but I didn’t want to double up. Life of a food blogger, one has to get as many different photos of the food as much as possible :p

All in all it was a good morning. Even though I didn’t get the choices I wanted from the menu, it was still worth a visit just to say I’d dined here before 😛 Now to wait for my next day off to try the other dishes on the menu.
