Cocoa and Rose is a small quaint cafe located on Hay Street towards the East Perth end where Tiffin Room once stood. I had been recommended to check out the lunch at Tiffin Room for the longest time but did not get a chance until recently. By the time I visited though, it had been replaced by Cocoa and Rose. Nevertheless I went in for a quick lunch.
There are probably around eight tables on the inside and a few outside on the walkway. I chose to dine indoor as it was a hot day, some fan action for me please!
Cocoa and Rose serves an All Day Breakfast and an All Day Lunch menu! There are a fair few choices! Muesli, pancakes, bagel, eggs etc for breakkie or sandwiches, soup or salads for lunch.
My final choice was a Flat White ($4) and a New York Reuben ($12) for lunch 🙂
The Flat White was smooth on the palate but was not too strong. I should have ordered a Long Mac instead. Needed the caffeine buzz! I was surprised to be presented with a coffee that had a random blob of froth in the middle of the cup, maybe latte art gone wrong? It looked clumsy to me.
The New York Reuben consisted of thinly sliced fresh corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut & mustard dressing. I had to try this as the New York Reuben sandwich seemed to be the rage in the last few months. Mine was not quite a sandwich, it was more like a burger and there were a lot of filling in it. No lack there whatsoever! I loved that it came with a side of salad, it refreshed the palate after scoffing down a whole lot of corned beef and cheese. I could get use to the flavors of a New York Reuben but the combination didn’t really rock my world. Glad I tried it though, at least I can say I have tried a New York Reuben before :p
Service was quick and the wait staff extremely chirpy which brightened my day. A convenient cafe if you are after a simple and easy lunch.
