Me Pho is located on the busy Rowe Street in Eastwood, the strip which has quickly become our go to place for a meal due to its close proximity. There are so many restaurants and cafes to choose from along this street, especially if you are into the Asian type of cuisine (Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, Vietnamese etc). For lunch we decided to go Vietnamese and arrived at Me Pho.
Me Pho is a smallish restaurant that serves street food style and flavors from Southern Vietnam and specializes in Vietnamese beef pho noodles. The interior is brightly lit and clean. I like!
One must always try the Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($4.50) when one is dining in a Vietnamese restaurant and that was exactly what I did. It came already mixed and poured into a tall glass. Back in Perth I usually get the coffee still in the making (dripping into the glass) and was also able to mix the amount of condensed milk I want into the coffee before pouring it into the tall glass. Over here it’s different, tt’s all done for you. Not sure whether that is a good thing as I usually like mine less sweet. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee at Me Pho was strong and had a great taste but was too sweet for me as predicted. Bring back the drip coffee!
For lunch, the hubby ordered the Beef Pho ($13). There are many varieties of pho on offer here including the Wagyu beef, Ox tail, Fried chicken, Mushroom, Pork chop. Unusual for a bowl of pho. The hubby thought original would still the best. The Beef Pho with slow cooked beef brisket and sliced tender beef top side was flavorsome and had depth of flavor. He was impressed.
Wanting to try something different and also because I haven’t had this since I came to Sydney, I ordered the Banh Xeo – Vietnamese Pancake ($13.50). Crispy pancake with filling of prawns, chicken, mung beans and carrots served with salads and a special dipping sauce. The Banh Xeo here was slightly disappointing as it was quite bland and the pancake was not very crispy. Might stick to the Pho next time!
Service here was quick and the prices reasonable for what we had. Not a bad place for a quick meal!
