Aqua S, located within the Regent Place Arcade on George Street has probably one of the most ‘instagrammed’ photos of their soft serve ice-cream in Sydney. I’d always thought it was located somewhere right beside the ocean as the photos always look so whimsical and dreamy. To my surprise, it is actually a small parlor situated in the middle of the CBD and looks quite normal except for the cleverly painted side wall of blue and white giving the illusion of ‘floating clouds’ amidst a clear sky. Topped with some airy fairy floss surrounding the cone and good lighting, the photos look surreal and are an instant attraction!
I was lucky the week we walked past as Black Sesame was one of the flavors on offer that week. Aqua S introduces two new flavors every fortnight so it never gets boring! There had been flavors such as Papaya Milkshake, Brown Sugar Ginger Tea, Purple Yam, Hazelnut Chocolate, Milo, Blood Orange to name a few. I find out about the flavors through their Instagram account. Their signature flavor and also one that is permanently available at the store is the aqua blue Sea Salt! A flavor inspired from travels to Okinawa, Japan. Seems like a lot of great foodie ideas come from Japan!
My attempt of getting an arty photo :p I had the half-half Sea Salt/Black Sesame on cone ($4).
How did I go? Hehe
The Sea Salt soft serve has an unusual taste on the first bite but it grows on it. A taste you have to get use to as the saltiness is quite prominent. I’m glad I ordered the half/half as it helped with the overall taste. I love the Black Sesame flavor, still my favorite! Yum!
There are a variety of toppings available such as the fairy floss, grilled marshmallow, palmiers, mochi, sweet popcorn, popping candy and sweet egg roll. $1.50 for one topping, $2.80 for two, $4 for three and $4.50 for four, and that is the maximum you can have. They also do slushy, I have to remember this for summer!
Great place to drop by for a soft serve – get in the hype!
