Happy Chinese New Year 2017! Can’t believe another year had past and it’s the new year again! We spent the new year in Taiwan and Perth and I had only just arrived back in Sydney last week. It was straight back to work, full time at the secondment office and night time work at my own office as required! Needless to say today, Oz Day is the first day I am free during the day time. I had initially agreed to do some work today as well but luckily my colleague in Malaysia told me it’s “un-Australian” like to work during a public holiday so it was cancelled. Phew!
Last week, my friend alerted me to the High Tea Laduree is putting on for Chinese New Year (CNY) which got me really excited. I did not know Laduree celebrated CNY?! I went about looking for people to attend the event with and luckily my sister-in-law and cousin-in-law were free today. Off we went in the morning to Westfield Sydney. There are four sessions today and we chose the earliest at 1030am so that we can get some shopping in and get home in time for Federer’s match in the semi-final! I hope he wins tonight!! The High Tea sessions last for 1.5 hours which is good timing for us.
Laduree Tearoom is located on Level 3 in Westfield Pitt Street Mall. I have expected the proper tearoom like those found in Japan and France (they are so beautiful inside!), but the one in Westfield has a kiosk setup similar to the Tea Salon. Still a nice setting though.
The Chinese New Year High Tea is $45pp ($48 with booking fee) and consists of the following:
- 2 x Finger sandwiches (choice between Smoked Salmon, Cucumber Apple & Ham)
- Financier & Madeleine
- 3 x Macarons (menu for the choices shown below)
- 1 x Drink (choice of Laduree Coffee, Hot Chocolate or Tea) and
- Mecca cosmetic gift pack valued at $55
My choices for the sandwich were the Smoked Salmon and Ham; and for the macarons, the Pistachio, Orange Blossom and Salted Caramel. They were all so delicious! I think Laduree has the best macaron in the world! I wish they had the Earl Grey flavor in the menu though, that would have been perfect but alas. The food were rounded off with a Mocha.

The place was full during our session and it was about 60% rate with the CNY High Tea. Quite popular. The main “Chinese” element was not found in the food but in the selection of the tea but I needed my coffee fix so I did not get to try it. It was a great experience and I loved the ambiance for the chit-chat!
Back home I went through the gift pack and found a Mecca bag, mini primer and sunscreen. Nice gifts! The only thing missing was the Red Envelope Pack – please remind them for it if you are going to the later sessions. The CNY High Tea runs from today (26th Jan) until the 5th February. Enjoy and have a great and prosperous Chinese New Year!
