I first heard of Textbook Patisserie when Instagram was flooded with pictures of their Truffle Croissant, usually sold out quickly on the day they are available. No chance of me getting one, I can never wake up early enough! I started scrolling through their page and found they also create some pretty awesome desserts! My kind of place! While picking up our cousin one night from the airport, I realized it is located in very close proximity so it was the perfect spot to bring my mum for lunch when she landed here from Perth.
The inside of the patisserie is quite spacious, there is a communal table as well as individual tables scattered around, we managed to nab the last individual table when we were there for a Saturday lunch.
The baked goods and desserts are displayed at the counter and they look amazing! There is also a brunch menu should you want something more substantial. We ordered from both just to get the best of both worlds. Order is taken and paid at the counter.
But first, our Coffees! A prerequisite for all brunches/lunches!
From the brunch menu, we had:
- Mushroom Trio on Toast ($14) – King brown, enoki and button mushrooms, sauteed with spinach, topped with poached egg and parmesan, served on seeds and grain toast. This was so delicious with a strong umami flavor. The mushroom was huge too! Salty, cheesy and creamy, how can you not fall in love with this dish?
- Bruschetta ($12) – Cherry tomatoes, bocconcini, fresh basil, balsamic and olive oil, served with toasted baguette. The hubby ordered this and thought the serving was quite small and the baguette a bit hard. I had a taste and loved the taste of the cherry tomatoes with the balsamic and olive oil. I did wish there were more pieces of baguette though.
Not entirely satisfied, the hubby ordered a sandwich which filled him up completely. The other extreme!
From the baked goods, we had the Blueberry muffin and Plain Croissant. They were both so fresh and tasty. I could eat these everyday, luckily I live quite far away otherwise bye bye to my gym workout! I can’t imagine what the Truffle Croissant will taste like if the plain croissant is already so delicious. Need to get my hands on one during the in season ASAP!
We could not go without trying one of the dessert and chose the Grand Marnier Cheesecake with Bergamot orange and basil jelly on an almond streusel. Absolute decadence, and another winner! The basil jelly in the middle was a nice surprise and offset the cheesecake’s sweetness.
A peak of what Textbook has available on a given day, there are so many to try but alas limited stomach space. I have to go back again! In fact my sister already booked a slot to try this patisserie out when she’s here in Easter. Highly recommended!
