Chinese New Year at the Silks!

Lunar New YearThe Lunar New Year (LNY) has always been celebrated at the Crown Perth and this year is no different! I was told that LNY is the second busiest time of the year for them! Two weeks of festivities with entertainment, activities, fireworks and most important of all, feasting! Who wouldn’t enjoy it? Crown has  a number of events and special menu lined up until the end of February. Check it out here! And don’t forget the 7.5m crystal Wishing Tree found at the lobby for an amazing LNY picture!

The LNY celebrations begin at Silks with a signature banquet designed by the Master of Cantonese cuisine, Head Chef Pat Cheong. Thanks to the Crown Perth, I was invited to celebrate this festive season with a lunch at Silks where we sampled a few of the dishes from the Signature Banquet. I was most excited! Sadly this menu was only available up to the Saturday that had just past (13 February).  For those who have missed out, there are other dishes in their main and dimsum menu which are great too!  Some of the dishes I’d tried when they first opened are shown in my  previous blog post :). Get in fast for next year!

Sarawak Hawker Cuisine, Willetton

Sarawak Hawker CuisineWebsite: https://www.facebook.com/Sarawak-Hawker-Cuisine-798255573578729/

Located in my old hood, Burrendah Boulevard in Willetton, Sarawak Hawker Cuisine has been a favorite of mine ever since they opened late 2014. It is our “go to” restaurant for our fill of noodles and rice dishes especially their specialty, the Kolo Mee, a favorite in the Sarawak (East Malaysia) world, where the noodles are flash-boiled, and topped with garlic and shallots, minced pork and shredded of BBQ pork. Simple but delightful. What makes it special at Sarawak Hawker is that the noodles are handmade in house and one get to experience the springiness of freshly made noodles at a very reasonable price. Win!

D’Big Mama, Coventry Village

D'Big MamaI accidentally stumbled upon D’Big Mama a couple of weekends ago whilst looking for a place to lunch at the Coventry Village in Morley. D’Big Mama is located near the front entrance facing Walter Road W, opposite the indoor playground and a couple of new restaurants I haven’t seen before. Having not visited Coventry for a few good months, I was surprised that so many new restaurants have sprung up! We were tempted though to D’Big Mama as they offer hawkers style of food, one of my favorite cuisine! Halfway through our lunch, the owner of the cafe started chatting to us and we found out that this is a new venture by the same family that owns the Noodle Forum restaurants in Perth City and Westfield Carousel. Traditional handmade noodles…oh yeah!

PappaRich, Joondalup

Papparich JoondalupWebsite: http://www.papparich.net.au/

Perthians north of the river jump for joy! The third PappaRich has recently opened inside Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre! No more long distance driving if you are craving for some hawker style food! One fine Saturday I ended up there, thrilled to be invited for lunch to celebrate its opening, I love the food at PappaRich!

PappaRich offers traditional Malaysian cuisine, in the form of authentic, high quality hawker-style street food which is right up my alley. My family and I have been frequent visitors to the Carousel branch as it was much easier to get parking and very convenient to sneak in for a meal after shopping. The same can be said now for the Joondalup branch! H&M, here I come!

Rossmoyne Chinese Restaurant, Rossmoyne

Rossmoyne Chinese RestaurantWebsite: https://www.facebook.com/rossmoynechineserestaurant

I first heard of Rossmoyne Chinese Restaurant when a fellow Instagrammer tagged me on her post with a picture of a scrumptious looking Hakka Egg Noodles with deep fried pork. It drew me in instantly! The following night I paid the restaurant a visit with the family but to my disappointment found it full! And it was only 530pm! Not to be deterred, I went back again the following week but this time I was smart enough to call ahead, and yes there was a table available! Phew!

The talk of town this year for the Eat Drink Perth festival was surely the Night Noodle Market (NNM) held at the Perth Cultural Center! Eat Drink Perth 2015 opened with a bang last Wednesday with the Night Noodle Market, a family friendly Asian hawker style market set up over three areas, namely the Central Square, Museum Plaza and the Urban Orchard, housing over 20+ stalls and 3 popup bars. It was so exciting! I ended up going to this event three times over four days!

Bambamboo located within the 140 Perth building opened its door three weeks ago to the public, much to the delight of many in the foodie community. I am not sure whether it was the cuteness of the sign (Kungfu Panda much?) or the promise of delicious dumplings that did it, but there was a buzz surrounding its opening with much anticipation of sampling what Bambamboo has to offer evident from all the mentions on social media.

Low Key Chow House, Leederville

Website: http://keepitlowkey.com.au/

Low Key Chow House (LKCH) is a restaurant serving modern Asian cuisine located on the busy Oxford Street in Leederville. I was intrigued when I first heard the restaurant’s name as it is so unusual, almost a tongue twister! When my friend from primary school wanted to catch up over dinner, I suggested for us to check out LKCH.

LKCH was crowded when I arrived but we managed to secure a table for two pretty much straightaway. The worry I had of queuing up dissipated! Yay! The restaurant was buzzing, cool ambiance on one hand but too noisy on the other. It was hard to hear each other clearly over the table. One of the reason was because we were seated too close together. Oh wells, at least we were able to get a table. Looking around, I noticed an eccentric and haphazard decor. I like it!
