This festive season, Cold Rock Ice Creamery’s Christmas Pudding makes a return to the stores and I was excited I get to try one! Cold Rock Ice Creamery has created a fun and quirky sweet treat that will cool you right down after a hot Christmas lunch, an Ice Cream Christmas Pudding! Shaped like a Christmas Pudding but all ice cream! I couldn’t wait to pick up mine.
To make it more personal, ice cream lovers can pick and choose their favorite flavor as well as smash in any extras as usual, lollies, chocolates, fruits, you name it. I decided to go for the Cold Rock Christmas Combo which is made up of mint ice cream with sour pitted cherries, Oreos and mini marshmallows. Here it is! Looks great doesn’t it!
A couple of weeks ago, an invitation came from the lovely Laura Moseley for an afternoon gathering to check out the Standard’s new summer menu. I was quite excited as the Standard has been on my list to visit for awhile now but I never had the chance until then!
The Standard is located on Roe Street in Northbridge and is a bar, kitchen, wine garden all in one. On arrival, I was ushered up to the balcony located in the garden up the rear end. The balcony overlooks the garden and is perfect for a small event, away from the crowd giving us some privacy but open enough not to lose the ambiance. There were a number of bloggers and foodies attending the event and I managed to meet a lot of those I follow on Instagram which was so awesome. Finally a face to the page!
Nunam (previously Nahm Thai) is located on Bulwer Street in Northbridge. I remembered being very excited when I first heard of the Thai fusion menu they offered for breakfast/brunch. It was so intriguing! How do you blend Thai flavors with the usual modern Australian breakfast you normally find in cafes around Perth? We shall see!
I have been here a couple of times since the launch of the new branding and menu. The meal below is of my second visit with my family after loving what I had the first time.
March 2015 marks the start of Perth’s annual food and beverage festival – Eat Drink Perth (EDP)!
I am so excited to be selected once again as one of the official bloggers for this event. I had a blast last year attending and exploring all that the City of Perth had organised in conjunction with the various venues and businesses around the CBD, Northbridge, East and West Perth.
This year will be even bigger and better, with EDP 2015 running for 5 weeks (instead of 4) from 18 March – 24 April, the first ever Night Noodle Market to be held in Perth and the visitation of special guest celebrity chefs, Adriano Zumbo (need I introduce him?), Matt Stone (multi-awarded WA sustainable dining chef) and Shaun Presland (Executive Chef of Sake – Modern Japanese). Wow! It’s going to be a full on 5 weeks of culinary fun and adventure!
My uni mate and I were due for a catch up recently. mainly to exchange news of what had been happening in our lives these last few months. We decided to head to the Standard as I’ve been hearing great reviews of the place. As she was heading out the door on the Friday night, she suddenly realized that parking in Northbridge would be horrendous as the restaurant is in such close proximity to the Fringe festival! We decided to change venue then, with me frantically scrolling through Urbanspoon for a decent venue while she was driving. I came across Brika and decided to go it a go.
Gong Xi Fa Chai! Chinese New Year 2015 is fast approaching! In one and a half week to be exact! This year, I’m organising a festive meal at Szechwan Zen Chinese Restaurant on 22 Feb 2015 as part of a fundraiser for my church. The menu consists of the following:
Lot Twenty is a funky bar located just outside the State library carpark on James Street. I had heard a few good reviews about this joint and so decided to head there for lunch one weekend.
It was quite late by the time my friend and I arrived so we were able to pick where we want to seat easily. Lot Twenty has a variety of casual space both indoor and outdoor downstairs and also dining seating upstairs. We explored all three options and settled on a high table and chair just in front of the bar.
The PFEs received an invitation recently from Merrick, owner of the Szechwan Zen Chinese Restaurant to check out their restaurant which had opened just 6 months ago. Specializing in Chinese food, Szechwan style, it is a style of food with spicy bold flavors resulting from the copious use of garlic and the unique Sichuan pepper in the dishes. The Szechwan flavors have not been that common in Perth but I have noticed a few restaurants popping up serving this cuisine in the city and Victoria Park over the last few months. I was happy to give it a go, fingers crossed that my tongue/taste bud can take the spiciness! I invited two of my close friends to join me, both of them great cooks themselves and lovers of spicy food!
The Szechwan Zen Chinese Restaurant is located inside the William Street square in Northbridge. It used to be Teochew Palace in days long past and after that Four Seasons Roasting Duck Restaurant. I did not know that Four Seasons had closed down until I received this invitation! Szechwan Zen had since renovated the restaurant and there’s a big crab sign out front, very hard not to miss!
The PFEs were invited to check out PappaRich and feast Malaysian style following the launch of its first restaurant in Perth, taking over what used to be the Little Saigon Restaurant on James Street in Northbridge. I was already quite excited knowing that PappaRich was opening a restaurant in Perth. The excitement went up a notch to be then invited as a guest for the launch!
The last time I had PappaRich in Australia was at the Chadstone branch in Melbourne last year, then wishing that they would open one here in Perth. And now my wish had come true! I was so eager to try it out that I went on the first weekend they opened (prior to my appointed time as a blogger), but alas the line was too long and we ended up dining at the Northbridge Brewing Company instead. The eagerness did not pay off :p
The Little Bird Cafe located on Lake Street in Northbridge was recommended by my sister’s friend for its smoothies – the Green Smoothie in particular was highly recommended. After checking out the photos on Urbanspoon, my family and I decided to head there for breakfast one weekend. Some of the photos of the food at the Little Bird Cafe just looked so picturesque!
The Little Bird Cafe is quite big in size, with a spacious indoor area, outdoor high benches near the entrance and a courtyard area. The decor was very cool, retro and antiquey, there are a few items that will make you look twice out of admiration. I really like the multi-colored lampshade sitting on the table! Apologies to my readers as I forgot to take a photo of it to show you! I also like the live entertainment that came from the guitarist, gracing us with his songs and singing throughout our meal. Absolutely loved the atmosphere.
